Ian McGill (he/him)

Board Co-Chair

Ian McGill is an attorney and policy strategist from Detroit, Michigan. He earned his law degree from Howard University School of Law and is a member of the D.C. Bar. His work has focused on environmental justice, fighting for communities that do not always have their voices heard at the table, and supporting nonprofits, cultural organizations, and community-focused institutions.

Before becoming a lawyer, Ian worked in cultural programming, including at Motown Museum, where he helped preserve and share one of Detroit's most important creative legacies. That experience shaped a belief he carries into everything he does: that creative expression is a right that too few people get to exercise.

As Board Co-Chair, Ian offers strategic and organizational support to help Elgin, its staff, and the young people it serves stay focused on the work that matters. He joined the board because he believes every young person deserves a real creative education, including those inside detention centers.
